BUDDINGS-(KNOPSKYDNINGER) BETWEEN CHAOS AND ORDER 2024

“All human wisdom can be summed up in two words wait and hope.”
Alexandre Dumas (French author, 1802-1870)

A serie of 46 painting 40-210 cm, 15 drawings 50×70 cm and 10 sculptures 5-160 cm – here I present some of the paintings.

With the Knopskydninger series, I have let the works—paintings, sculptures and drawings—emerge before me as a resonance of something I feel but cannot quite grasp what it is. I experience it as a necessity—a visual, non-explanatory reflection on being in the world as it is right now.

In contrast to my usual approach to art, Knopskydninger emerged from a more unstructured flow of thoughts, where each new idea grows from the previous one, not always in a logical order, but often carrying remnants of what came before. The series evolves organically, with main stems symbolizing chaos and movement, while the knopskydninger (new growths)
are magnified sections suggesting a localized order. This creates a dynamic interplay between chaos and order, reflecting both my thought process and my experience of the world.

My grandson was born deaf. Although he doesn’t communicate like we do, we still understand him. He perceives the world through vibrations, similarly, I ‘listen’ through abstract visuals.
This becomes a form of representation and resonance for me. Recently, my grandson received cochlear implants at Rigshospitalet. The skilled specialists there have replaced his missing cochlea with electronic devices. Now, we attend training so he can learn to interpret these electronic signals and develop his sense of hearing as his young brain adapts.

While I have a spoken language, in Knopskydninger, I rely on the abstract, non-verbal language of colors, shapes, and movement to explore the tension between chaos and order, balance and tipping points.
The work stands apart from verbal expression—it refers only to itself. Without a clear linguistic framework, it is challenging to position my art in the contemporary scene, but that makes the process even more intriguing.
