CENSURED EXHIBITION- DEN FRI – COPENHAGEN 1997

BEING A HUMAN

In 1997, I found myself deeply immersed in the experience of being human—inhabiting a body, embracing the new
reality of motherhood, and contemplating the vast, intricate machinery of existence. My thoughts drifted between
the intimate and the cosmic, from the tenderness of life forming within to the infinite expanse of space, the moon,
and the celestial bodies encircling us.

DEN FRI

The two paintings presented here were part of a censored exhibition at Den Fri in Copenhagen, where I explored
these intertwined themes through a figurative clash of narratives.

PAST AND PRESENT

In one, a skeletal form of a prehistoric bird—a
relic of ancient life—stands in dialogue with the looming presence of a war helicopter and military forces, evoking
tensions between past and present, nature and destruction, fragility and power. In the other, fragments of a Greek
sculpture merge with enigmatic figures, men seen through glowing orange dots, clad in space suits, drifting through
the vast unknown of outer space.

HISTORY AND IDENTITY

The juxtaposition of classical antiquity with futuristic imagery blurs the boundaries
of time and human ambition, raising questions about history, identity, and our place in the universe. Accompanying
these is a graphical drawing/painting of a woman’s inner organs—an intimate revelation of the space where life begins,
the sacred chamber where a child is born. It is an anatomical and symbolic reflection on creation, vulnerability, and
transformation.

OTHER PAINTINGS

In other paintings, I continued to explore these themes further, delving into the intersections of life and death, war and
motherhood, the terrestrial and the celestial. Through layered imagery and contrasting elements, I sought to capture
the tensions and harmonies that define our existence—a visual meditation on the human condition, bound both to the
earth and to the infinite beyond.
