IDEA-BREAK
In Faxe lime quarry, the spherical shape of the earth is broken. At this refraction, historical layers become visible.
With finds of fossils of past animal and plant life, they point back as much as 65 million years.

Faxe Kalkbrud, over time. The bigger Faxe Lime Quarry has become, the bigger Faxe has become.
IDEA-THE EDGE
When you visit Geocenter Kanten and Faxe Kalkbrud, the edges of the quarry appear dramatic, partly because with their clear
white color differs from the brown-green surface color of the earth’s crust, partly because they are so steep and there are dizzying and
impressively down to the bottom of Faxe Kalkbrud. The edge is also the dividing line between Faxe Kalkbrud and the city, between “underground” and “surface”.

IDEA-HISTORICAL TOWN MAPS FROM 1815 – 2014
The historical maps from 1815 to 2014 show that faxes have grown as Faxe Kalkbrud has grown.
It’s like all that lime, that has been excavated from the quarry has been transformed into building stock and has materialized in urban
distribution and context. Principle sketch showing how fragments from Faxe’s building culture are included

They are in dialogue with cycle paths and offset 30 degrees from the approach roads facing east-west to prevent direct visibility.
IDEA-BUILDINGCULTURE
Faxe is and has been an enterprising area. This is evidenced by the different building cultures. These are, for example, castles
and estates, Unibrew and Haribo, large local industries, half-timbered houses, concrete carts and rest areas.
All of them are visual and historical markers of the area, which fascinate me in their
span and difference in idiom.
